70's - 80's

Master Braider - Patricia Stephens started her journey in the hot Summers of the 70's in Toms River, NJ. She later moved to South Carolina to serve clients from surrounding areas.

​

During her childhood she adorned heads of dolls and neighborhood family and friends with her gift.

​

 

90's

While chemical services were declining, the natural hair movement was yet on the rise. Customers traveled for miles to get their braid services.

​

In 1995 in the small country area of Longs, SC, Backwoods Braids became the first salon foundation for many of her creative styles.5-4

​

1996 she became the Lead Stylist, Educator and Sales Rep for "Taliah Waajid Brand World Natural Hair Events" Atlanta, GA.

2000's

​

Backwoods Braids Beauty Salon became the popular location along the Grand Strand & Little River area of SC for locals and tourists.

 

The salon served a diverse clientele of three locations in South Carolina assisted by a total of 17 operators.

​

In year 2005 the salon received the "Who's Who Award" and was recognized as; "Best Salon on the Grand Strand."

​

Business grew in high demand for hair braiding services in addition; hair braiding courses approved and were regulated by SC State Board of Cosmetology which continues today.

April 1, 2024 Backwoods Braids was re-opened in the Myrtle Beach area of SC.

​

 "Beauty Braid Salon Academy" will begin classes in the 2025 year. To introduce a variety of techniques ranging from past hair braiding creations to the new trendy techniques of today.
